Tyne & Wear Archive
I have been spending time in Tyne & Wear Archive researching the collections of the Spence Watson family, in particular the letters sent between Robert and Elizabeth and their daughter Mabel. The collection includes roughly a thousand letters between the family members, a book of reminisces dictated by Robert to one of his clerks, a book of poetry handwritten by Evelyn as a Christmas present for Robert (1892), a short journal by Elizabeth as well as many other bits and pieces by and about the family. The number of letters are very overwhelming and hard to read. Luckily some of the catalogue is well referenced meaning I can pick out letters that have short descriptions that may be relevant to some of the workshops or could have some relevance and use in the future. Here a few photos’ taken in the archive.Tags: archive, Art, Bensham Grove, community, letters
